The Upper Mountain Fork River in Southeast Oklahoma is a top destination for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Our cabin at Upper Mountain Fork Getaway puts you right in the middle of the action.
Upstream – Whitewater Fun!
Above our cabin on the river you’ll find great river floating for canoes
and kayaks. The float can range from easy to quite challenging depending
on the water levels and the seasons. We can help you determine the best time
to visit and help you locate outfitters for canoe rentals.
Downstream – Trophy Fishing!
Below our cabin the Mountain Fork River flows into Broken Bow Lake. This
deep, clear mountain lake has been called one of the top Bass fisheries
in the nation by FLW Outdoors Magazine. Below the Broken Bow Lake dam is
a trout fishing habitat that has produced the Oklahoma Brown Trout state
record (17-pounds, 4.64-ounces.)
Quiet Solitude & Natural Beauty
In
between the whitewater fun and the trophy fishing lies the Upper Mountain
Fork Getaway with a luxury cabin nestled along the banks of the river on
private property. Our location gives you a rare opportunity to enjoy peace
and quiet; to watch the river flow by and to take in the sunsets (and sunrises)
over the Ouachita National Forest.
Our property has an old road that makes an easy, wonderful nature trail. Along the river you can fish, float, swim, skip rocks and explore.
Birding
Bird watchers will appreciate spring here. Many birds nest in McCurtain
County and return each year to raise another crop of youngsters. Summer
Tangiers, Tufted Tit Mouse, Eastern Phoebe, White Breasted Nuthatch, Blue
Birds, Woodpeckers and Indigo Buntings are a few of the species. Chances
are you may even see a Bald or Golden Eagle. Hummingbird and seed
feeders are on the property to attract our feathered friends. Come
evening, you can hear a whip-o-will or owl on a beautiful starlit night.
Talimena Scenic Drive
Just to the north of Upper Mountain Fork Getaway is the Talimena Scenic Drive.
This magnificent stretch of mountain top highway offers views so incredible
it has been named a National Scenic Byway; the only one in Oklahoma! The
Talimena Scenic Drive makes for a fantastic day trip any time of year and
is just a short drive north.
